Try finding synonyms for your original search term(s).

ex:  gay OR homosexual OR queer

Put phrases in quotation marks.

ex: "second-wave feminism" 

Use AND and OR to narrow or broaden your search results.

ex: "gay rights" AND Africa

Example searches:

  • sexism AND men
  • "civil union" OR "same-sex marriage"
  • "ways of knowing" AND women OR girls
