More Information on ILL

The purpose of the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service is to provide access to materials (books and journal articles) that are not found in the Middle Georgia State University Library or through GIL Express. Current Middle Georgia State University faculty, staff, and students, as well as retired faculty, may use this service. Patrons not currently affiliated with Middle Georgia State University are not eligible.

Articles

There is no limit on the number of journal articles requested. We strongly suggest consulting with a librarian to assist with the selection of appropriate articles. Librarians can be contacted by visiting the library’s front desk, or using the chat, text, or email buttons. Click here to contact a librarian electronically.

Patrons searching for articles are encouraged to check Middle Georgia State’s online subscriptions for journals. Click here for online journals through GALILEO and here for journals through Middle Georgia State.

Books

Patrons looking to borrow books are encouraged to first check the GIL-Find University System of Georgia Catalog to see if the book is in a University System of Georgia library. If the book is in a circulating collection, it may be obtained by the patron through their GIL account. Click here for the GIL-Find USG Catalog (search the GIL-Find Catalog  and choose the "University System of Georgia" search option).

GIL Express books may be borrowed for 28 days and can be renewed twice unless the book has been recalled by the lending institution. Renewals must be made in the patron’s GIL account. To learn more about GIL Express, click here.

Students are limited to 5 book requests at any one time through interlibrary loan. Textbooks cannot be ordered through interlibrary loan. Borrowers are responsible for overdue charges ($1.00 per day) and for replacement costs of lost items.

Books usually take from 1 to 2 weeks (sometimes more) to arrive and the loan period and renewals are determined by the lending institution. Renewals cannot be made using the patron’s GIL account. To renew a book, patrons should contact the Interlibrary Loan office on their MGA campus to ask if a renewal is possible. Books can be ordered using the Find It button in GALILEO or by filling out the form found here. Patrons will be notified through campus email when their books arrive and the books will be placed on the hold shelf at the front desk of the patron’s specified library.
