February 1992 Macon State College

Text pulled from the Jan. 27, 1992 News Release:

"Our Black History Month activities are designed to present the interrelatedness of black history, culture, literature, and arts and their influence on local and personal experience." - Mary Alice Morgan, Assistant Professor of English/Member of the Black History Month planning committee.

 

"Ms. Watts will perform traditional African folktales and modern African American stories at noon Feb. 20... and Giovanni will read from her works at 8:00 p.m. Feb. 28."

 

"This series offers our students and guests an important opportunity to learn about, and reflect on, the diverse experiences and achievements of African-Americans."

The KOLA publication, a multicultural literary magazine, is still in production today published by the Black Writers' Guild (Quebec).

From their website, "Its goals are to share and to celebrate the liberation of all black folk as a significant part of our humanity".
