The Tacky South

Faculty Spotlight

Dr. Monica Carol Miller is an assistant professor in the department of English at Middle Georgia State University. She writes about both the relationship between gender and region in American literature as well as the scholarship of teaching and learning. She is the editor of Dear Regina: Flannery O'Connor's Letters from Iowa, which won an award for excellence in archival research from the Georgia Historical Records Advisory Council.  She is also the co-editor of the Routledge Companion to Literature of the U.S. South. Her most recent work, The Tacky South looks critically at the tangled alchemy between southern aesthetics, race, and class.  Her first book, Being Ugly: Southern Women Writers and Social Rebellion, is currently available from LSU Press.
