Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to use the makerspace's Cricut?

Patrons can Cricut 'print' five things per semester. We may reevaluate this policy at the end of the semester.

What filetypes can I use with the Cricut?

Design Space Takes these file types:

  • Basic files: .jpg, .gif, .png, and .bmp
  • Vector files: .svg and .dxf

We recommend using either transparent PNG files or SVG files.

Can I use the Cricut through my phone or tablet?

Yes! You just need the Design Space app on your Apple or Android device.

What tools do you have for the Cricut?
Machine Tools:
  • Fine-Point Blade
  • Rotary Blade
  • Fine Tipped Black Pen
Mats:
  • 12" x 12": LightGrip Mat, FabricGrip Mat
Tools:
  • Scissors
  • Weeder
  • Tweezers
  • Scraper
  • Spatula
What is the maximum size for a Cricut 'print'?

Currently, the makerspace has 12 in. x 12 in. and 12 in x 24 in mats, so your 'print' can have pieces no bigger than that size. When formatting your 'print,' it can also be helpful to give yourself a .25 in margin on each edge. This means, when you're getting started, that you may want to make all of your 'prints' 11.5 in x 11.5 in. or smaller.

Is Design Space free?

The Design Space program is free, as are some of the assets (images/projects) available through the program. The majority of the assets in Design Space are an additional or subscription cost. You are able import your own assets using the necessary file types.
