Project Management

Module Three

 

Purpose:

The purpose of this assignment is to research and analyze a real world IT critical infrastructure event and interpret how various aspects of the project management plan can affect the success or failure of IT projects.

Students will:

  • Find and evaluate a case study that addresses a critical infrastructure IT project.
  • Research and examine historically significant cases (New York City Blackouts, Exxon Mobil's oil spills, IT-related banking fraud cases, or current Internet neutrality issues) to determine if they were successful managed.
  • Analyze how the organization's charter or a specific knowledge area may have influenced the success or failure of the project discussed in the journal article.
  • Recall the 10 knowledge areas and use that knowledge to determine whether or not the case study's plan to avoid past errors is or is not successful.
 

Tasks

  • Research a journal article on a critical infrastructure IT project.

  • Analyze how the organization's charter or a specific knowledge area may have influenced the success or failure of the project discussed in the journal article.
  • In your conclusion, describe a suggestion on how one of the 10 knowledge areas is affected by the case study's plan to avoid past errors or sustain success.
